Five sugared almonds for each guest to eat

To remind us that life is both bitter and sweet

Five wishes for the new husband and wife -

Health, wealth, happiness, love and long life!

I want to share with you a lesser known wedding tradition. In Italy they are called Coccarde Bomboniera but we will just call them Italian Confetti Flowers. The spools of ribbon are already prepared for you to slip Jordan almonds (representing the bitterness of life enveloped by the sweetness of love) OR something way better tasting into the little petals. Then you need simply pull the cord along the base and you have a flower favor with yummy surprises in each petal! Depending on how full you want your flower, you can fill different amounts of petals and then snip the end to length. If you fill every other petal you get a very intricate blossom that looks more multi-layered (below). As well, some ribbon is very simple and others are quite ornate with different fabrics like silk, lace, and organza.

I bought two spools for my wedding intending to have a beautiful flower on each place setting. In the end I will be yardsaling them because a) We didn’t have plates on the tables because it was buffet style. b) They were the wrong shade of ivory. c) Turns out I hate the taste of Jordan almonds and didn’t think at the time to put anything moreĀ palatableĀ in them.

How cute would this pink one have been on the plates in my Pink Poinsettia Mood Board?
