Bride: Ruby Chavez, 25 – Mental Health Counselor
Groom: Saul Hernandez, 26 – Correctional Technician
Date: July 5, 2013
Today’s wedding is another where the couple met long ago. Ruby and Saul have been a couple for 10 years – high school sweethearts to be exact:
Saul and I met in high school. We have been together since. Saul was very shy and I was very outgoing, so I approached him. From the very first time we met, we knew we were meant for each other. After graduating from college, Saul decided “it was time” and asked my parents for permission to marry me. My family and his knew he was going to propose on my Birthday. I thought we were going to have a small dinner at my parents’ house, but they all knew otherwise. He was so nervous, behaving unusual all day, I had no Idea. After dinner, he asked for everyone’s attention, he pulled me close to him, and whispered in my ear how much he loved me and how he “knew” I was the one from day one. He got on one knee and asked to marry him.
The couple married in a Catholic ceremony performed by a priest, Father Tomas, who has been present for many of Saul’s family milestones of faith. I always really enjoy seeing Catholic weddings because I feel that the scenes are always so colorful, steeped in culture, and the regalia of the priests adds something special to the altar shots. And that beautiful view with Saul waiting among the colorful windows resonated deeply with Ruby as well. She reminisced, “My favorite part of the wedding was walking down the aisle, seeing him as nervous and excited as the day he asked me to be his girlfriend.” Their reception was held at Red and Jerry’s at the River Point Event Center. While the mass was all business, the reception was definitely all party in a club setting with two live bands. And it was the first dance of their party that was Saul’s favorite part. “It was relaxing to know that everything turned out great. She looked so happy, which made me happy,” said Saul. Now that’s a good man! ;) Congratulations Ruby and Saul!
