Being one myself, I have a soft spot for the nerds who walk among us and these two are just so cute. Keri and Jon were married on June 9, 2012 at Shupe Homestead in Longmont. From the Build-A-Bear teddys that looked like the bride and groom (complete with converse shoes on the groom bear) to their video game theme processional and recessional music (Zelda is part of their love story), this wedding was bursting with personal touches unique to the couple.
Inside her dress, Keri wore her mother’s engagement ring, grandmother’s engagement ring, and her baby ring. The dress itself was both a steal and a good deed, having been bought at a Brides Against Breast Cancer event. Both the bride and groom’s mothers read at the ceremony. Before the reception, Jon helped Keri change into her own blue converse. (Adorable) Guests signed a fingerprint tree made by the couple and posed with photo booth props created by their talented photographer.
Opting for a morning wedding, the reception was catered with an appetizer luncheon and a variety of amazing looking cupcakes. Guests enjoyed another special treat – 4 varieties of home brewed beer. (Note: I love, love, love this idea). The couple left the reception in Jon’s grandmother’s vintage Mercedes convertible decorated by their “Lieutenant Best Men” and “Co-Maids of Awesome” (neither could pick just one friend for the honor so the titles were shared…and expanded upon).
“Jon and I met in high school through a mutual friend. We saw each other around the engineering center at CU and reconnected on a set-up date, but I was not interested in dating him at the time (silly me). 10 months later at Halloween, I ended up going to a party hosted by him and his roommates dressed as Link from Legend of Zelda. This happens to be our favorite series of video games, and he started hanging out with my friends and I. In January, after hosting an epic New Year’s Party, he called me and asked me to see a movie with him. I said yes, and we started dating soon after. Obviously that worked out as we eventually moved in together and are now married!” – Keri
“Jon was going to take me up to Estes Park one evening (June 30) for dinner, but it was raining so we went to Sushi Zanmai in Boulder instead (a favorite). He was quiet all night and as we were walking back to his car, I heard a rattling sound in his pocket. He claimed it was just his keys, so I ignored it. He proclaimed that we should go get Glacier ice cream, and headed that general direction. Instead of continuing down the road to get there though, he turned and headed up Baseline Ave to Flagstaff road. There is a great spot up here to look out over the city of Boulder and beyond. At this point I was suspicious of what he was doing because I recalled saying that this particular spot is very romantic. He ushered me off the beaten path and told me to turn around. When I turned back towards him, he was on one knee! It started raining right then, and while crying, I said yes! On the way home we still got ice cream.” – Keri
Congratulations Keri and Jon!
