Oh Crooked Willow Farms, you make me feel all the feels! Every last detail was clearly designed for a photo op. Aldabella Photography typically has no problem making any location look like magic, but with a head start like this…hold on to your hats folks! Maggie and Henry’s Crooked Willow Farms wedding is the epitome of elegant country. Together with a great team of vendors, the couple created a stunning reception space that makes me wish I had been a guest. There is nothing overtly themey or over-the-top really; just a classically beautiful wedding. What makes it so special is the attention to detail. Things like the settee and copper mugs for the bride and groom and the little butter balls with fresh herb garnish on the tables catch my eye. The flower petals aren’t haphazardly scattered on the aisle but arrange in a gradient of color and a lovely design. I really enjoy it when the little things are given such great care. At a location this beautiful, it would be easy to rest on that existing awesomeness, but this team really took the time to ensure that nothing was overlooked for Maggie and Henry.

Their Story:

We met through a mutual friend at the local burger joint, where the night continued on to a friend’s house for games.  We began swimming together at the gym. Our first date consisted of a very competitive swim workout and then sushi for dinner.   We dated for 4 years. Then on New Year’s Eve, Henry surprised me with a light show, which ended in ‘Maggie will you marry me?’ strung through with lights. – Maggie

The Best Part:

Getting ready with all of my girls!  Then probably our first look, it was nice to take a minute and just appreciate the day and each other. – Maggie

The Soundtrack:

  • First Dance: “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” – Frankie Valli
  • Father-Daughter Dance: “Goodnight My Love” – Paul Anka
  • Mother-Son Dance: “Pencil Thin Mustache” – Jimmy Buffett

Styled Shoot: Mountaintop Winter Elopement

By Season Hurd | | Comment

Winter may be feeling a little on-again-off-again lately in most areas of Colorado, but at this time of year it’s always a beautiful shade of winter in the mountains. A spectacular view of the continental divide and Rocky Mountain National Park blanketed with snow makes this mountaintop winter elopement feel like eternal Christmas. Granby Ranch is a cozy backdrop for an intimate cold-weather fête. The design team embraced the winter feeling by choosing darker shades of red and blue, warmed up by the addition of honey tones. Rustic elements like antlers and deer heads on the invitation pay homage to the location, while refined choices like copper elevate the mood. Then in a marriage of both elements; the feathers, fur, and leather seem nature-derived yet sophisticated. I’m particularly taken by the leather in the bride’s hairpiece. I think it shows that typically masculine materials can play nicely with the feminine. The reception space is greater evidence of this still with oodles of flowers atop a leather and plaid tablescape. Romantic candles add sparkle to spartan glass plates and take the chill off stone chargers. This styled shoot is further evidence that weddings don’t have to be frilly or bright to be stylish and welcoming.
